"We need, in the interest of the community at large, a rigid system of game-laws rigidly enforced, and it is not only admissible, but one may almost say necessary, to establish, under the control of the State, great national forests reserves which shall also be breeding-grounds and nurseries for wild game; but I should much regret to see grow up in this country a system of large private game-preserves kept for the enjoyment of the very rich. One of the chief attractions of the life of the wilderness is its rugged and stalwart democracy; there every man stands for what he actually is and can show himself to be."

Theodore Roosevelt

WELCOME TO THE HALL OF SHAME

The High Fence Shooting Gallery operators claim to offer the equivalent of a Fair Chase hunt. Take a close look at the sample pages off their web sites below. Most high fence operators guarantee 100% success on trophy quality bucks and bulls. Anyone who has ever hunted deer and elk in the wild will tell you that success measured by killing a trophy animal is a rare experience. The Shooting Gallery operators can offer a 100% guarantee because they have the target animal penned inside an escape proof pasture waiting for the shooter. A shooter can pick a specific antler score from one of the online price lists below before leaving home to shoot the designated animal inside the operator's fenced pasture. The higher the antlers score, the higher the price for killing the animal. Paying to shoot an elk or deer inside a fence is not hunting; it’s killing for the sake of killing, and that killing makes a mockery of the Fair Chase tradition passed down to us by Founding Conservationists like Theodore Roosevelt.

The best weapon anti-hunting organizations have in their arsenal are the Canned Shooting operations. High Fence shooting operations present the non-hunting public with an image of hunters so sloppy, so lazy, and so unmotivated by the actual experience of hunting, that they have to fence the animal in an escape proof pasture in order to find it and kill it. Whether Fair Chase hunters like it or not, anti-hunting organizations group Fair Chase hunters with the Canned Kill crowd and there isn’t a thing we can do about it no matter how many times we proclaim ourselves to be fair chase hunters. The High Fence Canned Killing crowd wants it that way; they need the camouflage of legitimate Fair Chase to hide what they are doing behind their fences.

Shooting Galleries like those listed below create a poor image of legitimate hunting in the mind of the non-hunting public. That image affects every hunter in this state. Like it or not, honest hunters stand in the shadow that the shooting galleries cast over legitimate fair chase hunting.

Therefore, This Hall of $hame, on this site to educate North Dakota Voters.

The $hadow Legitimate Hunter$ $tand In

And the Price tag of that $hame

The Shooting Gallery operators argue that the trophy deer and elk they offer to the public are raised in as natural an environment as free roaming deer and elk in the wild, that their animals stay wild in spite of being raised in close proximity to the humans that feed and water the animal. Their own advertising shoots down that argument. The sample pages from the Sheyenne Whitetails web site below lists , “60 huge northern whitetail deer in a 20 acre natural environment.”

Those are their words, not ours. Twenty acres equals 16 football fields. That is far from a natural environment.

When we say they hand raise, and hand feed their deer, we aren't kidding. The whitetail buck behind the Ranger with the mouth full of feed in the picture below may be a pet, but then again, he may be offered as a trophy to a phony "hunter" for a price. How much of a challenge will it be to stalk this “wild” buck when he reaches that magic 200+ trophy class?

We aren't making this stuff up. Look at the sites below, click on the links to these sites and see the evidence for yourself. The High fence operators claim their artificially inseminated, hand raised trophy bucks are as wild as any free roaming deer. How wild can a deer be after being run through the chute pictured below?

Sheyenne Whitetails was established in 2004 for the sole purpose of producing huge typical whitetail deer.

The doe herd consists of 200+ genetics.  Our AI program consists of Canyon, AGN, Thundercloud, and Top Draw.

We have 60 huge northern whitetail deer in a 20  acre natural environment.  The abundant trees and rolling hills provide the deer with protection from the elements.

We plan on AI'ing 10 does in the fall of 2009.
